Now this post is going to be a bit different. What you can notice right away is that I’m writing it in English – it just came this way. What you cannot notice is that it is supposed to be a Christmas present for somebody. By telling you that, I’m warning you that I’ll be (more or less) adressing someone personally in the post, so you might not necessarily find it interesting. But you’ll figure that out yourself : P That somebody knows that this is his Christmas present so I’ll be able to keep my policy of not mentioning names in my posts, which is of u-t-m-o-s-t importance! Kidding; nothing regarding this blog is strictly defined. However, I still won’t mention names in it : P
A little background:
Nowadays it is quite common to meet people online. It has happened to almost anybody. Some of the people I’ve met online I’ve already forgotten and they’ve probably forgotten me. Some of them were and still are quite interesting to talk to. Some of them I’ve met in person as well and they’ve become my friends. And that somebody I’m writing this post about found me online about a month ago.
“Big deal! Just another person you’ve met online!”
…, you might think. But you’ll be wrong, because this time it’s quite different. You know, music is an integral part of my life. I’m relating songs to anything – from situations to people. And that’s what all music lovers do (or at least I think so). But this is the first time I’m relating a song to somebody I’ve never met and talked to in person. So for me it’s a big deal.
Alright – what’s the story?
I was chatting with this person some time ago and suddenly I started to imagine a situation involving her (OK, OK – the person is a “she”, but you would’ve figured that by yourself anyway). So here’s how the situation looked like: it’s a windy winter day, but the sun is shining. She’s riding a tram and she’s dressed quite heavily. She’s thinking about some stuff of hers and she’s a bit distracted. The tram reaches its last stop. She doesn’t notice it at first, but when she does, she jumps up happily, gets off and starts running up a nearby hill. She soon reaches the top and stops. From it she sees a neighbourhood of apartment blocks with some playgrounds between them. There are children playing there. She observes this view for a while, then looks up to the sun, smiles, turns around and starts walking back. And that’s where the song starts …

I probably would’ve wanted to write about this song anyway. It is a massive hit and a pure britpop anthem. The La’s are great as well (read about them here), but now that I know her, in my mind this is her song and that post is more about her than it is about the song. So, Merry Christmas, you! And I’m glad to have met you, even if it is still only online ( :
